Hongdae, busking and ice cream - Seoul Trip Day 5

25/5 21:00
Today has been a slow chill out day to balance out the walking and traveling from the past few days. I decided this when I woke up at 3pm and couldn't be arsed to plan anything super complicated. As I got up in my pyjamas I heard the door jingle and...people arrived! I haven't met them yet because I didn't want to impose on them seeing as they just arrived but hopefully there will be a fateful meeting by the kettle or something. I heard them speaking what I assume to be Spanish so from my detective skills I conclude they are two Spanish girls. Here's hoping they're friendly!

I got ready super fast and decided to just head out and walk into actual Hongdae, because where I'm staying is a small suburb within Hongdae and I've not seen the 'main' streets. Hongdae is a trendy and studenty area known for being hip and cool and having a lot of busking, whether that be singing or dancing or guitar playing. Since I had time I just wandered around looking at everything. Then, by chance I found one of the locations I had planned to visit: Molly's Pops! It's a small ice cream shop where they have all kinds of flavours. I got a mint chocolate chip ice cream pop and continued on my way. I soon realised how difficult it is to eat ice cream while walking in a graceful manner so I found a seat and finished it there.

Again, just walked around more and visited some cosmetics shops for necessities and then stumbled upon the busking area! There were a few ones where it was just one person singing, but then larger crowds around dancers. I watched two separate groups of dancers do their thing. It was really cool! There was a lot of audience participation too, or rather the performers winking and looking at specific audience members. They did a wee ad for their Facebook pages at the end and had small donation buckets go around.

I continued on my way and before long decided I wanted to get back to my airbnb and get something to eat. Before I could do that however I stopped by the road to check the route, and realised I was right next to a cafe I had read about the previous night! I had searched cat cafe's in the area in hopes of finding out more information about the one near me but this place, Table A, was highly rated on Google so I read some reviews. I decided to go in because I can't say no to cats and it seemed empty so, more cats for me. I popped inside, ordered a drink and went to sit with the kitties! From what I could count there was nine cats, two of which were asleep on little pillows on the table. I spent a wee while here just petting the cats and chilling out, it was cozy.

It was getting dark outside so I left to finally eat something. I found a cute panini place nearby and got a veggie panini, it was delicious! The restaurants in this area are super full at this time of night where everyone is out with their friends so I just wanted something easy to go. Back now to just chill a bit. I'm meeting an acquaintance from a long time ago tomorrow and then have a cooking class on Sunday! Exciting times...

Cheers,
Becks
